A graduate of Princeton University (BA in Economics and Social Institutions), Arthur Brown has been a long time member of Community Associations Institute and is a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality. He is a retired Executive of IBM, having worked for 35 years in varied disciplines such as marketing, procurement, quality, engineering, personnel, employee motivation and recognition programs, litigation, and facility administration.
Active in community association matters for more than 20 years, Mr. Brown has served on several association boards and is the past president of the Del Mesa Carmel Community Association in Carmel, California. In 1988, while he lived at Del Mesa, he initiated and served as the chair of the original healthcare study committee and later became the chair of the new standing life care awareness committee responsible for the program presented in this case study.
Mr. Brown is a freelance author and has written several articles on a variety of community association issues in Common Ground, Condo Management, Communicator and Quality Digest. His article in the March/April 1999 issue of Common Ground covered the Del Mesa program.
He has lectured in national procurement, quality, personnel and employee motivational conferences and seminars, and has made presentations on the issues related to aging populations.
He and his wife recently moved to the Carmel Valley Manor, a life care retirement community in Carmela decision influenced largely by his involvement in the program at Del Mesa.
